Recent events in our world remind us not only of the fragility of peace in many regions of our world but also of the history of wars based on religion with belligerents calling out that "God is on our side." We forget that God is on the side of all of humanity. Fortunately, we have an advocate for peace, Mary our Mother and Patroness. Unfortunately, without our prayers, Mary will "sit on the sidelines," while the world burns.
We will discuss the writings and speeches of the Venerable Servant of God, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen on Mary as "The Woman who loves the world." We will discuss his insights on how our Mother, for whom her Devine Son will refuse nothing, intercedes on behalf of world peace. Finally, we will discuss Archbishop Sheen's writings on "Mary and the Muslims," that Mary is revered in the Quran as the "Greatest of all Women." Archbishop Sheen proposed that the Prophesy of Fatima about Russian conversion should also be extended to the Muslims. In his book The World's First Love: Mary, Mother of God, Archbishop Sheen writes, "I believe that the Blessed Virgin chose to be known as “Our Lady of Fatima” as a pledge and a sign of hope to the Muslim people and as an assurance that they, who show her so much respect, will one day accept her Divine Son, too."
You are welcome to open and download these files for our Gathering discussions. The first file is a chapter from Fulton J. Sheen's favorite book among the 68 that he wrote. Other articles discuss Our Lady of Fatima and Mary's role as the Queen of Peace, particularly with regards to the ongoing confrontation between our Church and the entity that Saint John Paul II refers to as the "Anti-Church." The last document is a booklet from the Knights of Columbus/ Catholic Information Service Veritas series entitled, "The Message of Our Lady of Fatima."
