Our Veterans Day program featured the "Brotherhood" episode from "Into the Breach - An Apostolic Exhortation for Catholic Men." The episode tells us that Catholic men are in need a “band of brothers”—other men they can rely upon. The Twelve Apostles are such a band. Veterans will be familiar with the concept of Brotherhood from their service years.
Our Prayer segment featured prayers from, "Armed with Faith," a Catholic Handbook for Military Personnel, edited by the Archdiocese of the Military Services. We will pray for all members of the Armed Forces, veterans, and the fallen. We will also acknowledge Catholic Chaplains who were awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Click on the links below to review the media that was presented and discussed. This includes the lesson on "Brotherhood" from the Knights of Columbus "Into the Breach" video series. Also presented are the program charts for the agenda and prayers resented during the program as well as discussion questions on "Brotherhood."
We encourage all to see our Tribute to the late Lieutenant General Hal Moore and his dedication to God and his Catholic Faith throughout his Army Career.
Lieutenant General Hal Moore was a US Army Officer who served from 1945 to 1977. His service as a Battalion Commander at the Battle of Ia Drang Valley from 14-16 November 1965 was depicted in the 1977 movie "We Were Soldiers." However, Hal Moore's life was much bigger than his actions during 72 hours of brutal combat.
Please read an interview by General Moore published in 2008 by the National Catholic Register. A brief note of introduction leads the interview.
