Our Advent Gathering features a Lectio Divina for one of the many scripture readings for which God tells his people to be ever vigilant for his arrival on earth. Of course, during the Christmas season we are aware of Jesus's coming as an infant, but we often overlook His second coming, at which time we must stand in judgement.
Included on this web page are several readings from both the Old and New Testament that are relevant for the Advent season. Presented below for download are readings from Isiah, Paul, and Peter as well as the Gospels of Mark and Luke.
Lectio Devina is Latin for "Sacred Readings." The selected Scripture verse will be connected in three phases. First is the Lectio - the introductory reading at which attendants are asked to asked what the Bible test is saying. The second phase is the Meditatio - the Meditation for which attendants pray in silence to ask God to speak to us directly through the Scripture passage. The third phase is the Contemplatio - the Contemplation at which time the attendants ask God to transform our hearts and show us how He sees reality and ourselves. Of course, each phase of Lectio Divina includes "Oratio" - prayer by the attendants to speak our minds to God with what we are actually feeling, not what we think that God wants to hear.
