The New Evangelization
The basic mission of the Cor Men''s Ministry is Evangelization. We gather to bring ourselves closer to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Every Catholic man needs a strong relationship with God and has a mandate to bring Jesus to a broken world. The New Evangelization requires us to share the Gospel to those who have not only fallen from their faith, but also to practicing Catholic brothers who are members of the Saint Michael faith community. At this Gathering, we are not striving to change the world; we focus on evangelizing ourselves!
Our program will feature the episode on "Evangelization" from the Knights of Columbus "Into the Breach" series. The episode speaks of evangelization as an invitation -- helping people know the "one thing that matters," Jesus Christ.
Feel free to view the "Evangelization" video from the links below. Websites and documents pertinent to evangelization are presented for review. In particular, look at relevant viewpoints from two of the greatest evangelists in the history of the modern church, the Venerable Servant of God Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen and Saint John Paul II.

Into the Breach: Evangelization Study Guide
Please download the Study Guide on "Evangelization" that accompanies the video. We will use this guide for our "table top" discussions on how we, the men of Saint Michael Parish, can achieve our directive to spread God's word within our Parish and our Community, and eventually to the whole world.

Saint John Paul II Encyclical: "Redemptoris Missio"
This is Saint John Paul II's critical encyclical on the New Evangelization. In this paper, he states the importance of evangelization, not only among the Christian communities, but to the non-Christian world as well. The encyclical's primary subtitle is, "On the Permanent Validity of the Church's Missionary Mandate. JPII states, "Missionary evangelization remains urgent because 'it is the primary service which the Church can render to every individual and to all humanity in the modern world'."

Fulton J. Sheen on Evangelization
Who was the greatest Catholic evangelist of the twentieth century? To me it’s no contest: Venerable Fulton J. Sheen. Some might argue for Pope John Paul II, who had a bigger impact on the world. Others might claim Mother Teresa, whose smile and sari were certainly more recognizable. But in terms of evangelization, I don’t think anyone drew more people into the Church than Sheen.
His success was due in large part to his mastery of new media, which in his day meant radio and television.
In 1930, Sheen launched his “Catholic Hour” radio show. It broadcast globally on over 100 stations and reached more than 7 million listeners. In 1951, he moved to television, where his popular “Life Is Worth Living” show drew in over 30 million people each week.
